Mountain Ash celebrates inspirational quality audit!

Mountain Ash, our residential care home in Hastings, has plenty to celebrate after achieving fantastic results in their latest annual quality audit.

Every Voyage Care service takes part in these internal reviews, which help us celebrate what’s working well, identify opportunities to grow, and ensure we continue delivering safe, high-quality support that empowers people to live the lives they choose.

Mountain Ash was assessed against our five ETHOS values: Empowering, Together, Honest, Outstanding, and Supportive. The team achieved ‘inspirational’ ratings across all five categories – the highest score available. These scores reflect their expertise across a range of areas including safeguarding and safety, leadership and management, and positive outcomes for the people we support.

We caught up with Service Manager, Victoria Sanford, to learn more about how the team achieved such a fantastic audit.

Why is this quality audit such a key achievement?

Our ‘inspirational’ scores across all five categories are a true reflection of the dedication, commitment, and hard work everyone has shown over the past few years. We didn’t change anything on the day of the assessment – we simply showcased the exceptional care and support we deliver all year round.

Receiving such positive feedback means so much to every one of us. It reinforces our confidence and inspires us to keep striving for excellence. It’s such a rewarding feeling knowing the work we do is making a real difference to people’s lives.

What contributed to such a successful quality audit?

Working together as a team played a significant role in the success of our quality audit. Over time, we’ve built a positive and supportive culture where people feel valued, listened to, and empowered to take ownership.

We’re committed to developing our team by providing the relevant training and guidance, so they can meet the needs of the people we support. We also create a culture where mistakes are opportunities to learn and grow, rather than something to fear. This approach has strengthened our team and helped us deliver positive outcomes for the people we support.

How do you ensure you provide person-centred care?

The people we support are at the heart of everything we do. We take the time to build meaningful relationships with everyone – understanding their life, interests, goals, and support needs. We then work with them to create person-centred care plans that reflect what matters most.

Our person-centred approach has empowered the people we support to live fulfilling lives with confidence, independence, and happiness. Achieving such a positive quality audit reflects how impactful this approach has been and motivates the team to keep improving.

How did you involve the people we support?

When assessment day arrived, we explained to the people we support that it would just be like any other day. We kept routines the same and ensured everyone was comfortable. We respected their communication preferences and only involved those that were comfortable.

When the Quality and Compliance Manager arrived, Anthony, one of the people we support, was eager to meet them. He answered some of their questions about the home and explained what his support looked like. He then took the Quality and Compliance Manager on a tour of the home.

Anthony embraced this opportunity and was proud to share his achievements since moving to Mountain Ash.

What’s next for Mountain Ash?

We’ve taken the time to celebrate but know this is just the start! Our focus is now on building on this success by continuing to provide the highest quality care for the people we support.

Our team is striving to learn and grow, so every person at Mountain Ash can achieve their goals and fulfil their potential.

We also have a vacancy at our home, so we’re all excited to welcome new housemates to our family in the not-so-distant future.
