At Glasshouse Hill we provide support for eleven residents who have a brain injury.

Supporting you

We aim to support individuals to regain their social, cognitive and independence skills, and to develop their confidence. We are pleased to have been awarded Headway Approved Provider status.

Residents at our home have the opportunity to progress from one of the rooms to one of our independent flats as their skills improve. Speech and Language, Neuro-physiotherapy, Neuro-occupational therapy and Psychology input are also available as required.

Programmes are carefully designed and integrated into each person’s daily routine. Support is based on rehabilitation techniques which strive to increase independence, and progress is monitored closely using Goal Attainment Scaling, which provides motivation.

In 2012 we were proud joint winners of the Laing and Buisson Specialist Care Award for the Brain Injury Rehabilitation category. The award recognised our four stage rehabilitation programme which supports individuals to work towards a gradual move back to their family home, or to a new home.

Facilities

The building contains eight en-suite bedrooms and three self-contained flats with private lounge and cooking facilities.

All bedrooms have the option of ceiling tracking if required, and the whole building is wheelchair accessible.

There is an extra training kitchen where people can be supported by staff to develop their menu planning and preparation skills. There is also spacious shared areas, giving the choice of socialising or spending time alone.

A diverse programme of activities is offered, tailored to individual tastes. These include outdoor pursuits, music, art and life skills workshops.

The team

Staff offer consistent support and help the people we support to set clear goals, and there are opportunities for people to move through a number of settings as they build their independence and confidence. The same team can provide continued support after the person we support moves into their own home for as long as it is needed.

Glasshouse Hill is situated in the small but thriving town of Codnor in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. Codnor is a short drive from both Derby and Nottingham.

These provide a wide range of educational and leisure facilities, including colleges, shops, pubs, bowling centres, an ice skating rink and sports centres.

Everyone is encouraged to create their own activity programme, which can be tailored to their interests and also encouraged to make full use of facilities available locally. The home has a secluded patio and overlooks a local park.
