Celebrating the opening of specialist neurological service, Riverway Lodge!

Across the country, our specialist neurological services offer an expert-guided approach to supporting people with complex neurological conditions to regain control of their lives and lead the independent futures they deserve.

Nurturing positive spaces where people can make sustainable progress, our thoughtfully designed, community-based homes empower a sense of both independence and belonging. Led by compassionate, specially trained teams, our bespoke care and support promotes individual strengths and abilities. So, the people we support can build meaningful skills and coping strategies and re-establish a life in the community.

Recently, we expanded our provision to offer more opportunities for people with neurological conditions to receive specialist support that empowers independence. Located in Stockton-on-Tees, Riverway Lodge was officially opened in June 2026. Fully refurbished, each element of this 25-bed residential care home has been carefully considered. Located in the heart of a quiet suburb, it will safely equip them with the tools they need to confidently and positively engage with the surrounding community and re-establish what independence means to them. And we thought this was something worth celebrating! So, we held a special grand opening event to mark this momentous occasion.

Meaningful moments

Commemorating Riverway Lodge’s official opening, we held an exclusive event that welcomed professionals from across the health and social care sector, local organisations, and neighbouring residents. From Operations Managers to Service Managers and support colleagues, our skilled team shared information about the unique support provided at Riverway Lodge and their hopes for the future of neurological support in the area.

Alongside meeting and greeting visitors, our team received an extra special, surprise guest! Paulina, a person we support at Summerfield Court popped along to see our new service and share her own personal experience of our unique approach to neurological care and support.

Paulina moved into Summerfield Court, a specialist brain injury support service in Leeds, after suffering a brain injury in 2020. Since then, her progress has exceeded all expectations. An expert by experience, she’s now working closely with our Operations teams to help us shape our support. So, our support at Riverway Lodge – and our other neurological support services – will continue to grow and evolve in an informed way!

Officially opening Riverway Lodge

Throughout the day, our guests enjoyed learning more about Riverway Lodge’s unique support and the thoughtful features of the home. Designed with wellbeing firmly at heart, a neutral colour palette and consciously curated decorations provide a low stimulus environment to support emotional wellbeing. Split into three wings, the home offers different accommodation types to support people at various stages of their rehabilitation journey – from en-suite residential rooms to transitional and long-stay apartments. The addition of therapy wings ensures our full programme of targeted therapies are available to everyone who needs it at Riverway Lodge. And with a warm, welcoming atmosphere, Riverway Lodge inspires a true sense of home.

After receiving guided tours around our home, guests assembled in the warm glow of the sunshine to witness the official opening of Riverway Lodge. Together, Service Manager Lesley, Operations Manager Peter, and our Managing Director of Neurological Services, Andrew Willcock, shared words about our hopes for how Riverway Lodge will serve the people we support and the wider community. After eager anticipation, our guests looked on as we cut the ribbon and officially opened Riverway Lodge!

For Service Manager Lesley, there was another surprise in store when our Senior Marketing Executive, Katie Marie Fuller, presented her with a commemorative poem. Personally penned as a milestone for this important moment, the poem illustrates the guidance that is shared between Support Workers and the people we support along the rehabilitation journey.
