In May 2025, Sharday arrived at Weaver House, our specialist service for young adults in Warwickshire. After spending many years in foster care, moving into a residential care home was a whole new experience for Sharday. But what we learnt about her straight away, is that she’s full of hope.
When the prospect of transitioning to a specialist home came about, she was both nervous and eager for a new adventure. With her can-do, positive attitude, it wasn’t long before excitement about the move to Weaver House started to build!
Since then, Sharday’s journey to greater independence has come on leaps and bounds, and she’s blossomed into the inspiring person she is today. The growth she’s achieved since being with us has been remarkable⦠and she’s now moved on to supported living, where she can live even more independently.
Learning Independence
Sharday first arrived at Weaver House full of excitement, but also apprehension. In the months that followed, our team saw her completely transform – growing her independence and confidence. Previously while at college, Sharday regularly relied on her progress coach for support, often not leaving her comfort zone or pushing herself to grow her skills.
Now, Sharday is dedicated to mastering independence and learning all the skills she needs to live life to the fullest! With the support of our dedicated team at Weaver House, she’s felt supported to push herself out of her comfort zone daily, joining the community, making new friends and taking full ownership of her life.
The biggest change for Sharday has been her emotional growth. Since joining Weaver House, she has made significant progress in managing her emotional wellbeing. With consistent support and guidance, Sharday has shown positive progress in managing behaviours that may once have caused challenges. This reflects an important step forward in her emotional maturity. She is developing a stronger understanding of herself and her emotions, blossoming into a young woman who is increasingly confident in navigating the world around her.
In a few short months, Weaver House had a huge impact on Sharday’s life, giving her the opportunity and resources to grow and become independent. Plus, she’s made great memories with her housemates and support team, which have shaped the person she’s become.
She’s loved being a part of a family-oriented home and has been encouraged to embrace the things that are important to her – including her heritage. While at Weaver House, she’s learnt valuable life skills such as baking and cooking. She regularly cooked Jamaican food for her support team.
They also nurtured her interests, passions, and hobbies; frequently playing board games like Monopoly together. Outside the home, Sharday’s made friends by singing, dancing, and going places with her fellow housemates.
Sharday has thrived during her time with us. As her confidence, independence and essential life skills grew, it became clear that was ready to embrace the next chapter in her journey. Sharday was ready to take steps into supported living.
The next chapter
In a short space of time, Sharday made incredible progress at Weaver House. With her emotional and behavioural struggles managed, she established a strong sense of independence. Developing both social and life skills, she was naturally ready for the next step on her support journey.
Sharday was ready to transition to supported living, where she would manage her own accommodation while still receiving as much flexible support as she needs. Moving onto greater independence presented mixed emotions for Sharday, as she loved the home she’d established at Weaver House. It was a hard goodbye, and our team and housemates recognised this, so they celebrated the occasion in a positive way – with a fun party! It was a day full of emotions. With goodbyes, and overwhelming pride, everyone at Weaver House is proud of Sharday.
With the right support from a committed team, Sharday has grown into the independent young woman she is today. She now moved into her next chapter in supported living with the confidence and independence she needs to thrive.
