Gemma Morris

Regional Clinical Lead

I studied at King’s College London University and qualified as a Children’s Nurse in September 2015. I started out as a Newly Qualified Nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital on the Paediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) and worked there for over three years.

In 2017-2018 I embarked on a year of part time study with London Southbank University where I undertook the Paediatric Intensive Care Course at Master’s Level. The Course enabled me to develop my skills as a Cardiac Intensive Care Nurse but also gave me the opportunity to experience working in both NICU and general PICU settings.

I returned to full time shifts on the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit where I then became a ‘Preceptor’. As a ‘Preceptor’, I worked alongside a Newly Qualified Nurse for 3 months where I would support them on their shifts to the point where they became confident and competent to work more autonomously. It was within this role that I realised I had a passion for teaching and I wanted to explore my skills in Training and Education further.

I applied for the Clinical Nurse Educator role at the end of 2018 and I have worked as a Clinical Nurse Educator with Children's Complex Care since February 2019. I deliver a variety of clinical training sessions to staff, provide clinical support to them on shift and complete competency assessments in the child/young person’s home.

I love that this role is varied and that no two days are ever the same. I enjoy learning new things and despite being in an ‘Educator’ role, there is always more to learn aiding my own progression and development.
