Emma James

Service Manager

I started off my career in approx. 2001 after I had my first child. My career started in the community looking after the elderly in their own homes, I soon progressed in my career to Senior Carer then shortly after Care Coordinator. In 2013 I felt I needed a change and applied for a Deputy Manager position within Voyage Care. I was so scared in the beginning as I felt it was a challenge for me to work with people with learning disabilities as my main experience was working with elderly residents, and also leaving a company I had been with for such a long time, but it was the best thing I ever did. I GOT THE JOB! I absolutely love working and making a difference to the people we support. In 2017 I was asked to help out at a home that was facing some challenges at the time, I thought I would only be there for 4 weeks maximum, but how wrong was I? I felt I could make a difference to the home and the people we support who live there, although I was sad to leave the home I started my journey in I was excited to take on the challenge and I applied for the Registered Manager’s position. With a supportive management and staff team behind me, we made it through the challenges that were faced. Whilst with Voyage Care I have attended many training sessions, and I have achieved a diploma, in Level 5 in Leadership for Health and Social Care. I love my job and would never think about doing anything else. My core responsibility is running the home and supporting my staff team to carry out their job roles effectively and to maximise their abilities. I ensure the people we support lead fulfilling lives! My favourite part of working for Voyage Care is always feeling supported in my role and working with people we support to help and encourage them to achieve their goals in a person centred way, my job means the world to me and I am extremely passionate about it!
