Supporting positive wellbeing for healthy, happy lives!

Positive health and wellbeing are central to life for many of us, including the people we support across the UK. Playing a vital role in every care journey, maintaining good health and wellbeing shapes confidence, independence, and heaps of happiness.

So, across our services, the people we support are empowered to take meaningful steps towards healthier lifestyles in ways that work for them. From building new routines to reaching personal goals, each journey shows how small, consistent changes can make a massive difference.

Suzanne’s found joy in movement

Suzanne is a person we support at Woodside Close. She used to experience difficulties walking just short distances. Through person-centred support, that all changed. With the encouragement of her team, she found her love for movement.

When Suzanne wanted to make some changes to her lifestyle, her team respected her wishes and helped her find relevant opportunities. She started a new health journey by joining Slimming World and started getting more active. Quickly, she discovered how much fun it was to do more physical activity! Starting with light walks, she found something that was both fun and beneficial for her health and wellbeing!

By making small changes and discovering something that brings her joy, Suzanne’s more energetic and well on her way to maintaining positive health and wellbeing.  With her walking shoes and trusty backpack, there’s nothing getting in her way.

So far, Suzanne has achieved one of her goals, which was to lose some weight. This achievement has had an amazing impact on her wellbeing and confidence. With the right motivation from her team to finding activities that are meaningful to her, she now lives a happier and healthier lifestyle.

Suzanne continues to embrace a healthier and happier lifestyle, and we couldn’t be prouder of her progress and transformation

Luis built confidence in the gym

Luis, who lives at Winchester Road, shared with his team that he wanted to join a gym. Taking the time to listen to Luis, they understood how important this was to him. Using person-centred care and support, they worked closely with him to find a routine and location that was right for his needs.

Together, they explored different gym memberships and arranged for him to meet with local sport centre managers, so Luis could explore the different options and decide which one he wanted to join. Luis and our team found the perfect gym! Ensuring his needs would safely be met in this new environment, he would be empowered to grow his confidence while improving his health.

Since joining the gym, Luis is more motivated in daily life. Since achieving this goal, his confidence and emotional wellbeing have improved and he’s feeling more positive. Luis has even embraced other wellbeing facilities at his gym. He spends time in the sauna after his gym sessions, a hobby that keeps him both healthy and happy. He’s also been motivated to make healthier meal choices, although he still sometimes enjoys a post-workout treat in the gym’s café!

This is very positive for Luis and everyone at Winchester Road is so proud of him

Robert’s health improvements

Robert is a person we support at Mountearl. He’s faced some health challenges over the years as he has type-2 diabetes and breathing difficulties. This means he’s struggled to maintain regular exercise, which has affected his health.

Our specialist team at Mountearl understand the importance of physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. So, using a person-centred approach, they encouraged Robert to start doing daily exercises in the garden. Starting by walking two laps a day, Robert was instantly motivated! In the fresh air and sunshine, he now happily walks up to 30 laps of the garden a day!

Robert’s also set himself a challenge of walking 1000 steps a day. He counts these steps on his new smartwatch – and his steps keep increasing! Finding joy in his new active lifestyle, he’s even started playing football in the local park.

Robert’s progress has been amazing and has had a positive impact on his health and his breathing’s improved! He’s also stabilised his blood sugar levels and is working towards reducing his diabetes medication.

Supporting healthier, happier lives.

Although unique journeys, Suzanne, Luis, Robert and their support teams all demonstrate the power person-centred support can have on health and happiness. By listening, encouraging, and celebrating every step taken and goal reached, we’ve supported them to build confidence, make decisions for themselves, and discover what works for them. We know that when people are supported in the right way, small, meaningful changes can lead to life-changing outcomes.
