Ground-breaking ceremony as construction begins on our flagship brain injury rehabilitation centre!

Construction has officially begun on the latest addition to our portfolio of specialist brain injury rehabilitation services.

The day was marked with a celebratory ground-breaking ceremony, where our operational team members were joined by Simon, a person receiving specialist brain injury support at Maeres House, to lay the first brick!

He beamed proudly in his hard hat and high-visibility jacket, as he laid the foundations of our flagship service, located in the heart of Ellesmere Port. The site will be home to a purpose-built service, providing 28 beds for individuals in Cheshire that have suffered brain injuries.

The service will be made up of two buildings offering two pathways of support; dedicated residential care for people at the beginning of their rehabilitation journey, and self-contained flats, for those ready to live more independently.

The new site joins our other brain injury services Maeres House and Lorenzo Drive in the North West of England, offering further provision for specialist support in the area.

Placements Manager Louise Houghton said: “Opening our flagship service in Ellesmere Port will provide additional step-down, community-based, functional rehabilitation places in a location that’s lacking this level of specialist input and will create around 30 new jobs for local people.”

Specialising in slow stream rehabilitation, our new service will also be designed to offer long-term placements for people with ongoing or permanent support needs. Without this new service, many people might not have been able to receive the specialist care they need locally. But with the opening of our new site at Ellesmere Port, ongoing support close to family and friends will now be available.

The news comes as part of plans to extend our offering of dedicated brain injury rehabilitation services in this area to meet the high demand for specialist community-based rehabilitation.

Operations Director, Vicki Bennett, said: “We’re embarking on an ambitious growth period, one which will see us further cement our position as the leading provider of brain injury rehabilitation across the UK.”

She continued, “Ellesmere Port is the first of many new developments opening in 2024, joining our expansive portfolio of services across the North West of England. This shows our continued commitment to providing high quality support for people with brain injuries.”
