Lower St Helens

Lower St Helens is a residential care home in Hedge End, Southampton. Here, we provide high-quality care and support for up to four women with a learning disability, autism, low levels of challenging behaviour, cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, and other complex needs.

At Lower St Helens, we offer more than somewhere to live – this is somewhere for you to make your home. Working closely with you, we take time to find out your unique needs, goals, and preferences, so we give you the best support for your needs!

Based on your hobbies, interests, and ambitions, we offer opportunities for you to learn new skills, become more independent, and try new experiences. We work with you and your housemates to create a rich program of home-based activities. We enjoy craft, health and beauty, and sensory sessions.

Our team encourages everyone at Lower St Helen’s to become active members of the local community. This might include leisure activities in the community, like going to the cinema or bowling. We also access exciting opportunities like pottery sessions, music groups and scenic walks.

We love to do things as a household. We regularly get together to pop to local coffee shops, go cycling, and attend a monthly disco. We even go on holiday together!

Our four-bedroom home benefits from plenty of communal areas, including a kitchen with a breakfast bar, sensory room, and a relaxing outdoor area, complete with a fruit and vegetable patch.

We also have two shared bathrooms on the first floor, and a ground floor shower room with a shower chair for improved accessibility.

Ensuring there’s always plenty to do, we have a dedicated activity room. Ideal for both individual and group activities, our housemates enjoy getting stuck into arts and crafts and
indulging in pampering sessions!

We benefit from having our own house vehicle, which is shared by all our housemates. We ensure everyone can access the local area and engage in meaningful activities in the local area.

Our Team

Our specialist support team have the skills and knowledge to help you manage conditions like diabetes and have received specialist autism training. So, you can be reassured we’ll always prioritise your health and happiness.

We want to get to know you as an individual, so we’re also trained to support your individual communication preferences. We’re trained in Makaton, empowering you to comfortably and confidently express your thoughts, feelings, and wishes.
