Louise rediscovers life

Louise is a person we support at 126 Castle Lane, our residential care home in Solihull. After suffering a life-changing acquired brain injury, Louise’s life changed forever, but with the support of our dedicated team, Louise has discovered a new life.

Meet Louise

In 2021, Louise was at work and suddenly suffered an unexpected brain injury. Louise’s injuries were so severe, she ended up in a coma. Life changed in an instant for Louise and her future was uncertain.

After a long six months, Louise awoke from the coma and began a new chapter – one with many challenges that would impact her everyday life.

Louise was left with permanent brain damage, including significant memory difficulties. As a result, living independently was no longer safe for her. Louise needed a supportive environment where she could feel secure, while continuing to develop her independence. This was when Louise discovered 126 Castle Lane.

Life at Castle Lane

Moving into residential support was a huge change for Louise. She had to adjust to a completely different way of life while coming to terms with changes she had never expected to face. Understandably, this was not always easy. Louise experienced periods of low mood, depression and panic attacks, and there were times when the future felt uncertain. But throughout those early days, the team at 126 Castle Lane saw more than her diagnosis – they saw Louise as a person, with her own strengths and the potential to still live a happy, fulfilling life.

The team took the time to make Louise feel comfortable and understood, while learning what would help her regain a sense of control. Through patient, person-centred care, Louise was supported to take things one step at a time, giving her the encouragement and reassurance she needed to begin rebuilding her confidence.

Supported to thrive

Fast forward to today and Louise is thriving!

Over time, she has gradually rebuilt her confidence and begun to embrace new opportunities, discover new interests and develop skills that allow her to truly discover herself.

Louise regularly takes part in brain-training activities designed to support her cognitive abilities, helping her to stay engaged and motivated.

But Louise’s progress is about much more than cognitive development. It’s about living life to the fullest.

Louise has developed an active social life, enjoying time with friends and taking part in activities that bring her happiness and a sense of purpose. Most importantly, Louise is encouraged to make her own choices and maintain as much independence as possible, with the right level of support available whenever she needs it.

Moving here has given me my confidence back. I feel safe, well cared for, and I’ve made wonderful new friends. It really feels like home.
