Supporting you

At Twyford House we support up to 12 people with autism, learning disabilities, mental health needs and challenging behaviour. Every person living here is able to plan how they spend their days, with input and guidance from our team as required. We’re thrilled to be accredited by the National Autistic Society (NAS) at Advanced Status!

We support you to take part in activities you enjoy from sport and leisure activities to increasing your skills both at home and in the local community. Opportunities for people to try new things and to learn new skills are also high on the agenda, with everyone receiving encouragement to progress themselves. Activities the residents currently enjoy include swimming, trampolining, going to the cinema, and evenings out at discos.

Our residents are supported to meet on a weekly basis either as a group or individually, dependent on the needs and wishes of individuals. These meetings allow you to have input into menu planning, suggesting activities or destinations to visit, planning holidays and also to be involved in the recruitment of any new staff and to join in with company-wide events.

Facilities

The home is light with many spacious communal areas and an easily accessible rear garden to enjoy in the warmer months. We even have a specialist sensory room which includes sensory lighting, toys and games.

Everyone is supported to choose their bedroom decoration style and adaptations are made as necessary to promote independence. Many of our bedrooms have en-suite facilities.

Our large kitchen means you can prepare your own meals with support and guidance from the chef. The kitchen is always open and you can come and go as you choose. The large rear garden encircles three sides of the property so there is plenty of space for everyone. From a game of football to a barbeque the garden is well utilised.

The team

The team at Twyford House support individuals who have autism and associated complex needs, including mental health needs and behaviours which are considered to be challenging to others. Our service manager has more than 20 years’ experience in health and social care.

Twyford House is located on the outskirts of Dover, within easy walking distance of local shops, the town centre and the sea front, along with  good transport links into Canterbury City.

The people we support enjoy getting out and about whether they’re off swimming, going to the cinema or out exploring nature in our local countryside.

The service also has two vehicles to support individuals to go further afield both on activities and of course to keep in touch with family and friends.
