Our Home

The Knowls is a residential care home located in the picturesque town of Taunton, Somerset. Here, we provide care and support for up to 13 people with a learning disability, autism, epilepsy, challenging behaviour, non-rehabilitation brain injury needs, and physical disabilities.

At The Knowls, we’re proud to have a dedicated, compassionate team who create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We offer round-the-clock specialist support, with two waking night team members on duty to ensure consistent care throughout the night.

Through active person-centred care and support, we empower you to build on your strengths, develop daily living skills, and work towards personal goals. Promoting as much independence as possible at home and in the wider community, we ensure you lead a life that’s meaningful to you.

We’re a vibrant home, with lots of interaction and activities every day! Currently, we enjoy going for pub lunches, trips to the gym, swimming, and watching movies at the cinema.

Facilities

Our spacious 13-bed home is split into two sections. Our main house offers full residential support and has a large lounge, dining room, two kitchens, and a sensory room.

We also have a self-contained, two-bedroom flat. Along with a private lounge and kitchen, it’s perfect for those wanting more independence with the reassurance of residential support on-site.

Our home also has two separate gardens – perfect for relaxing in the sun. We encourage those who enjoy gardening to grow their own vegetables in the garden area.

Located in the heart of Taunton, we’re just a 15-minute walk from the town centre, giving us easy access to everything this vibrant town has to offer!

There’s so much to explore nearby – from cultural spots like The Museum of Somerset and The Brewhouse Theatre, to relaxing green spaces such as Vivary Park.

For those who enjoy days out, there’s also the County Classic Motor Museum, Somerset County Cricket Club, a cinema, bowling arcades, and a lively high street full of popular shops and cafés.

Taunton also has excellent transport links, including a train station and regular bus services, making it easy for those wishing to explore the surrounding towns and attractions.

For nature lovers, we’re lucky to be close to the beautiful Quantock Hills and Blackdown Hills, offering peaceful country walks and scenic views. We’re also within easy driving distance of some lovely local beaches — perfect for a day by the sea!
