At Summerfield Court we provide support to enable 17 individuals to build their cognitive and daily living skills following an brain injury. We are proud to have Headway Approved Provider status.
Our staffing levels are high, allowing everyone to become involved in the daily running of the home and to access local facilities. We adopt a person-centred approach and everyone is encouraged to create their own activity programme, which is tailored to their interests. An important part of the support we offer is to assist people to make the most of the resources available to them in the community.
As well as our team of highly trained staff, we employ external therapy staff to design, implement and review therapy programmes. These therapists cover a diverse range of specialisms including behavioural therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and physiotherapy.
In addition to being only a few minutes’ drive from Leeds city centre, Summerfield Court is also highly accessible by public transport, offering educational and leisure opportunities. Most people come to us following a period of intensive rehabilitation. Staff spend time with each person at their existing placements to ensure a smooth transition to our home.
Accommodation is very spacious and contains 10 ensuite rooms and 7 self-contained apartments with private lounge and cooking facilities. Teh people we support have the opportunity to progress from one of the rooms within the service to one of the transitional living apartments which offer the experience of being responsible for their own home, before moving out into accommodation in the community.
We actively encourage people to personalise and be involved in the decoration of their rooms in the style they desire. There are a range of shared areas to give everyone the opportunity to spend time alone, socialise with others or participate in therapy sessions. The service has an extra therapy kitchen where individuals can be supported to develop their menu planning and food preparation skills. We also have a large enclosed garden with an attractive patio area and water feature. People are invited to help maintain the garden to help build daily living skills. Our home is fully wheelchair accessible.
The specialists support the staff team to use the strategies they have put in place. We can also provide neuro-occupational therapy if required. Support is based on rehabilitation techniques to increase independence and progress is monitored closely through Goal Attainment Scaling.
