Wood Dene and Ross Dene (the Denes) offer a transition service for young people. We are also able to offer emergency placements during times of crisis. The Denes is full of character and warmth, providing round-the-clock support to up to 16 people with autism, learning disabilities and mental health needs.

Supporting you

The Denes is accredited by the National Autistic Society. We take pride in ensuring exceptional skills are utilised to support autistic people as well as those with other complex learning disabilities.

Location

The Denes are located in the Lofthouse area of Wakefield, between Wakefield Centre and Leeds. We are in close proximity to areas of outstanding natural beauty, heritage sites, town and city centres and leisure amenities.

Facilities

Our home consists of two buildings, Wood Dene and Ross Dene. The buildings are similar in layout, each comprising of eight bedrooms, communal living areas and tidy garden.

Other amenities include a transitional flat for those looking for more independent living, an art room offering a therapeutic release through creativity, and a sensory development room giving stimulus through Intensive Interaction. There is a lift to promote access for individuals with mobility difficulties.

The home environment is tailored to individual needs and can be further adapted upon assessment. All our bedrooms have en-suite facilities and individuals are supported to decorate and furnish their own bedroom to their own specification.

The team

Our residents are supported by a team of dedicated and experienced staff. The team remains consistent, with one staff member working here for over 15 years. All staff complete a high level of varied training including national diplomas, safeguarding vulnerable adults, administration of medication, autism awareness, crisis intervention, understanding behaviour and communication courses. We have a culture of open support and education which ensures all staff deliver a high level of practical person-centred care. The team is motivated by assisting the people we support to achieve positive outcomes in their lives.
