Mandalay is home for six young adults with learning disabilities and associated needs.
The home provides a warm, welcoming and safe environment while promoting independence.
We encourage individuals to lead as ordinary a life as possible, and support them to develop new skills and experience new opportunities.
The people who live here are supported to choose and access a wide range of group and individual activities. These may include swimming at the sports centre, which is situated nearby, bowling, meals out, visiting parks, river walks, pub visits, going to the cinema and shopping.
Other activities, tailored to specific health and educational needs, are identified through assessment and detailed on the individual’s care plan. Examples include speech and language therapy, or undertaking a course at the local college.
People are empowered and supported to make choices in their everyday lives. They are supported by experienced members of staff to build everyday life skills, such as cooking, cleaning and shopping.
Everyone is encouraged to interview potential staff members and meet regularly with all staff and management to discuss any concerns, issues or ideas for the home. We work with each person, their families and others close to them to create individual person-centred care plans, to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Our home is situated in Witham, Essex and it is a two-minute walk from the town centre, where numerous shops and amenities are available. The home is easily accessed by public transport; there is a bus stop directly outside and the nearest train station is half a mile away and gives easy access to London, Clacton and other nearby places.
The team are supported by a number of professionals, these include Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Psychiatrists and other medical professionals.
Each person has their own bedroom with ensuite facilities. There are three bedrooms on the ground floor and three on the first floor.
The home also has a large dining room, a lounge, a kitchen, an activity room and a utility area. All rooms are tastefully decorated and people are encouraged to personalise their own bedrooms. There is a large garden to the rear of the property, featuring equipment for outdoor activities and a patio area with garden furniture.
