At Derwent Cottage we provide specialist person-centred support to four people with a learning disability, autism, mental health condition or other complex need.
Support is tailored to each individuals needs, encouraging independence and aims to help the people we support to achieve their dreams and aspirations.
Although the people we support have profound disabilities, we support each individual to be as independent as possible by completing tasks such making drinks, cleaning, shopping and making meals.
We provide support 24 hours a day taking into account an understanding of each person’s preferred communication methods, allowing everyone to have choice and make informed decisions about all aspects of their care.
Our residents are encouraged to experience a range of activities and will be supported in doing this, including things like college courses, accessing local leisure facilities and health clubs, meeting religious needs, and all other aspects of daily living.
We have a good relationship with the local community, getting involved in fundraising and inviting local people to join us for events.
Derwent Cottage is a large 2 storey building that has a variety of adaptions to meet people’s needs. The home has four large bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities.
The service is wheelchair accessible and all areas have been carefully designed to meet the needs of people with a range of disabilities and incorporate special features such as, inbuilt equipment for moving people, height adjustable beds, specialist bathrooms and a sensory room.
These facilities enable individuals to develop skills and build independence.
The staff are well established and offer highly specialised support whilst still maintaining a fun and caring atmosphere.
