A marvellous milestone for Mission:Zero at the Laing Buisson awards!

In November, Mission:Zero – our innovative sustainability campaign – won the Excellence in Sustainability in Social Care award at the esteemed LaingBuisson Awards. Marking their 20th year, the LaingBuisson Awards celebrate organisations who set benchmarks of excellence across the health and social care sector. With more than 400 entries in the Excellence in Sustainability category alone, winning this award is an incredible achievement and a proud moment for everyone at Voyage Care!

Mission:Zero’s success reflected the incredible contributions from everyone across our organisation. Through our retrofit project, we’re making important energy saving home improvements. We’re also involving the people we support with eco-friendly activities and our team of savvy Quality Checkers!

This award recognises the passion and dedication of both our teams and the people we support, where everyone is committed to making a positive environmental impact. Across the country, Mission:Zero has been embraced as a shared mission, and winning this award shows the meaningful change we’re striving to make together.

How Mission:Zero makes a difference

Mission:Zero is our initiative to be net zero by 2035. This commitment means we’re looking at how we operate, finding ways to lower our footprint while continuing to provide safe, comfortable homes for the people we support.

As part of this campaign, our teams and the people we support share ideas and find creative ways to reduce waste in everyday life. From batch cooking to minimise food waste and reusing household waste, to making recycling information accessible and engaging. These activities show how meaningful change can happen when everyone is involved.

Mission:Zero is led by Captain Planet, our sustainability superhero. Along with his squad of sustainability sidekicks, he inspires our teams and the people we support to take part in eco-friendly activities, making sustainability fun, accessible, and part of everyday life!

A Net Zero Future Together

We’re always researching and implementing new ways to be more sustainable. Through creative initiatives and accessible education, we’re empowering everyone to play a part in protecting the planet and shaping a greener future.

With our retrofit project, we’re making important energy saving home improvements by upgrading existing properties with measures such as insulation, energy-efficient appliances, solar panels, and low-energy lighting.

We’re also involving the people we support with eco-friendly activities. We’ve recruited our Quality Checkers a team of people we support who appraise the design and running of our homes – to help our future mission become possible. Leading the way in sustainability audits, they hold educational forums sharing their knowledge about our planet and the next steps for our homes in Mission:Zero.

These audits are crucial for us to see how we can improve our services. Getting the perspective of the people we support is a valuable part of the process. It enhances their quality of life, and puts their voices, opinions, and ideas at the heart of how our homes are run – including how we make them more sustainable.

Plus, they’ve been tasked with a secret assignment: to create a new superhero to join our sustainability squad! We can’t wait to see who the new addition will be!

Celebrating environmental success

“What a night! Winning this award is testament to the incredible teamwork, dedication, and passion of everyone I work alongside. It was wonderful to celebrate this achievement together and have our Mission:Zero campaign recognised!”

Our recent success at the LaingBuisson Awards is a celebration of what we’ve achieved so far and continuous inspiration for what is possible when we come together with a shared purpose.

We believe sustainability can be embedded successfully and meaningfully into social care, benefiting both the environment, the people we support, and our wider communities. While this award marks an important milestone, our journey doesn’t stop here. An ongoing commitment, we’ll always strive to find more ways to drive forward positive change and making a lasting difference together.
