How we train our teams
Your child or young person’s safety is our priority. We ensure all our Healthcare Assistants receive expert nurse-led training from our in-house Clinical Case Managers, so they can confidently support your child or young person in all aspects of their complex care.
As your child or young person grows, their needs may naturally change or evolve. Our Healthcare Assistants receive continuous coaching and training, equipping them with the right skills to manage your child or young person’s needs.
Our specialist complex care training
Our in-house Clinical Case Managers personally deliver our extensive training programmes. They are registered Nurses with extensive paediatric experience, so you can rest assured your child or young person’s team have received industry-recognised, specialist training.
We deliver a complex care training model to all front-line colleagues. It covers a variety of key subjects and complex care skills to support your child or young person’s needs. In our complex care training model, we provide colleagues with:
Mandatory training
Our mandatory training focuses on the safety and risk limitation involved in providing complex care. We cover areas such as moving and handling – including the use of hoists and mobility aids – and basic life support, including airway and respiratory management and acute anaphylaxis management.
Clinical training
Alongside mandatory training, our staff are trained in a wide range of clinical care skills. Taught by our registered Clinical Case Managers, they accrue skills in:
- Airway clearance
- Infection control and hygiene
- Medication management
- Multiple programmed invasive and non-invasive ventilation
- Nutrition and hydration – including PEG/PEG-J tubes, feeding pumps and other enteral devices
- Respiratory management
- Tracheostomy care
- Seizure management
- Vital signs diagnostics.
We use national guidelines from the NHS, Great Ormond Street Hospital and other paediatric settings to inform our training. Delivered by our experienced Clinical Case Managers, our complex care training model is renowned and considered sector leading.
