Supporting you

Here at Strafford House we provide care and support for six people with learning disabilities and associated challenging and complex needs. We have experience of supporting autistic people as well as people with cerebral palsy.

Our aim is for each individual to become as independent as possible and we support everyone to develop life skills, such as cooking, laundry, housekeeping, finances, gardening and workshop skills. The residents enjoy exploring a range of leisure activities. Some of the people we support have paid jobs, others attend day services or classes at a Birds of Prey centre.

We hold regular house meetings and include everyone in decisions about menus and activities. Some of our residents are also involved in interviews for new staff by producing their own questions.

Facilities

Strafford House has six purpose built bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. The communal areas include a comfortable sitting room and a large, well-equipped kitchen/dining room. In the adjoining games room there is a computer, a pool table, games and a football table. There is also a garden with a large lawn and flowerbeds, overlooking fields.

The team

Our dedicated and proactive team provide opportunities for everyone to achieve their own individual goals and make choices about their lives. The team at Strafford House supports each person to develop their independence skills and take part in a range of activities that align with their individual interests.

The home is located in Hooton Roberts, a village surrounded by beautiful countryside. There is easy access to Rotherham, Sheffield, Doncaster and Meadowhall shopping centre. Nearby leisure facilities which we use include shops, a library, a gym, a swimming pool, a bowling centre, an ice skating rink and a cinema. A sensory facility is also available.

Strafford House is only a short bus ride from famous landmarks such as Conisbrough Castle, and is within walking distance of Thrybrough Country Park, which offers activities such as sailing, canoeing, sail boarding and fishing. We encourage our residents to use public transport where possible, as well as this we have a minibus available.
