Care Homes Staff bring Dan and his father back together, after a long 14 years
Dan*, a gentleman we support, unfortunately lost contact with his paternal family when he moved into one of our care homes – due to a relationship breakdown between his parents.
He has profound learning disabilities, physical disabilities and is non-verbal, moved to our Derbyshire home in 2006, after previously living with his mother.
Dan* has always had good relationships with his maternal family. But his support team at one of our services believed he would benefit from a relationship with his paternal family members, especially his father.
“We discussed this idea with Dan’s* mother back in 2017 as we thought it would be in line with his best interests. We all agreed that this will benefit him in the long run,” said Home Manager, Hayley Massey.
The team soon made contact with Dan’s* father and arrangements were made for him to visit his son.
His father first visited him at the care home and they spent some time catching up with each other.
Dan* and his father have since spent more time together, watching films and they have recently started to go out in the local community together.
“Since their first meeting, we’ve also supported Dan* to make contact with his half brother and sister,” stated Hayley.
Thanks to all of the hard work Dan’s* support team have done, he now has more connections with important people in his life.
“When hehas spent time with any of his family members, you can clearly see him expressing his happiness. He smiles a lot and expresses positive body language. I’m so proud of the team for making this possible and for really making a difference to his life,” said Hayley.
