Moving on with Voyage Care - Andrea and Riley's story

Andrea and Riley both wanted to move out of a Voyage Care residential placement in Liverpool to be closer to their families in Cheshire. They decided it was time to find their own rented accommodation to share, but they still wanted Voyage Care to support them in their new lives.

The pair were supported to find somewhere to live and they picked up the keys to their new home in December 2015.

We planned their transition to help them adjust and cope with daily life skills, such as budgeting, eating healthily and meeting new people.

Seventeen months later, they are both still supported by Voyage Care and developing their independent living skills. Their support workers help them to make informed decisions and they are gradually gaining even more independence.

We have helped Riley to apply for a mobility car and supported him to set up his own bank account and direct debits for bills. He has now got a girlfriend and we support him in his new relationships.

He now spends one day a week with his mum and he has more contact with other members of his family. He has also opened a savings account and is saving money each month to go on holiday.

Andrea enjoys the space her own home gives her, she engages in the community but enjoys being at home. She is supported to eat healthily and enjoys going out for walks to increase her fitness. We are also encouraging her to engage with people and build friendships.

They are both very happy in their home and the move from residential to living in their own home has been very successful. They are being supported to continue meeting their goals of independent living.
