Emily Bagnall, one of our Tender Managers has been volunteering for a charity since 2015 – and it’s not only made a difference to the people she supports, but it has been beneficial to her in many ways.
I mostly work from home writing tenders and it’s quite isolating. I very rarely come into contact with a person who has a learning disability, so I was worried my work wouldn’t reflect the real day to day experience of the people we support, explained Emily.
Emily visits individuals up to six times a year.
The two people I support enjoy regular visits and outings with someone outside their normal circle, said Emily.
The tender manager also volunteers at her local church as a member of the Parochial Church Council.
Volunteering gets me out and about and meeting people. I get the chance to use the skills i don't have the opportunity to use in my day job which i might otherwise lose, said Emily.
