Holistic approach stopped David's challenging behaviour

David lives in a specialist supported living service. When he moved into his new home from a specialist school placement, David had approximately 47 incidents of challenging behaviour per month which included assaults on others and self-harm.

Our support team all received specialist training to meet David’s needs following a structured approach using TEACCH. Input was provided by our in-house Behavioural Analysts Team. Behaviour management plans and support guidelines were implemented using early and preventative intervention strategies. We took a holistic approach to fully understand the reasons for his challenging behaviours. This approach included references to his medical history and particularly his epilepsy and diabetes.

Overall, David has an excellent quality of life in his present care setting resulting in a reduction of incidents to 4-6 per year.
